Town of Lexington, SC – Today, Beth Carrigg, Immediate Past-Chair of Lexington County Council, announced her endorsement of Gavin J. Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council.

Carrigg, who endorsed Smith during his successful and history-making 2023 special election campaign, said her decision to endorse him again is rooted in his track record and unique approach to leadership.

“When I first endorsed Gavin in 2023, I knew he had the drive to make a difference. Today, I can say without hesitation that he’s done exactly that. Gavin has deep roots in this community and he never stops engaging with the people he serves — whether it’s through his monthly Talk of the Town newsletter, his social media posts, or knocking on doors and attending neighborhood meetings to listen directly to citizens. He has taken a strong stand for responsible growth, fought to keep traffic solutions at the top of the agenda, and recently led the charge to bring Town, County, and School leaders together to form a new working group aimed at forging better collaboration between all three bodies. Lexington is stronger with Gavin’s leadership, and I’m proud to endorse him for re-election to his first full term on Lexington Town Council. I urge all citizens to get out and vote for Gavin on Tuesday, November 4, 2025!”

Chairwoman Carrigg’s endorsement comes on the heels of Smith announcing his Campaign Steering Committee — twelve local leaders, including small business owners, community leaders, and young people — who will advise on priorities, citizen outreach, and keeping residents engaged before and after the election.

Smith was elected in May 2023 to fill an unexpired two-year term, making history as one of the youngest members ever to serve on Lexington Town Council. Since joining Council, he has worked to strengthen transparency and communication by launching Talk of the Town, a monthly newsletter that remains the only publication of its kind by a Councilmember. He has actively connected with citizens through social media updates, neighborhood meetings, and direct outreach, ensuring residents have a voice in their government. Smith has also taken a strong stand for responsible development, fought to keep traffic congestion solutions at the forefront of the Council’s agenda, and spearheaded a first-of-its-kind working group between the Town, County, and School District to foster stronger collaboration across all three.

“I am honored to have Chairwoman Carrigg’s support,” Smith said. “Over the past two years, I’ve worked hard to listen, to engage, and to deliver real results for our citizens — but there’s more to do. This election is about keeping Lexington moving forward, solving the challenges we face, and making sure growth in our community is managed responsibly. I’m proud to stand with leaders like Beth Carrigg as we continue that work together.”

Smith is seeking re-election in the November 4, 2025 General Election.
