Town of Lexington, SC – Today, Lexington County Councilman Darrell Hudson announced his endorsement of Gavin J. Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council.

Hudson, who was elected to Lexington County Council in 2016, and who recently served as Vice Chairman of Lexington County Council from January 2023 to January 2025, said his decision to endorse Gavin comes from having witnessed Gavin’s leadership firsthand.

“Gavin Smith is a fighter for Lexington. He listens to people, he takes on their problems, and he gets results – all of which I’ve seen firsthand. I’ve watched Gavin step up again and again — being transparent, accessible, and determined to make sure citizens have a voice. Gavin has stood firm on responsible development, protecting our quality of life, and worked relentlessly to tackle traffic congestion head-on. There is no backing down for Gavin, and he doesn’t give up. That’s the kind of leadership I respect, and that’s why I’m very proud to support Gavin for re-election to Lexington Town Council on November 4, 2025.”

Hudson’s endorsement comes just after Immediate-Past Chair of Lexington County Council, Beth Carrigg, announced her support of Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council. Both endorsements come shortly after Smith announced his Campaign Steering Committee — comprised of twelve local leaders, including small business owners, community leaders, and young people — who will advise on priorities, citizen outreach, and keeping residents engaged before and after the election.

Smith was elected in May 2023 to fill an unexpired two-year term, making history as the youngest members ever to serve on Lexington Town Council.

Since joining Council, Smith has worked to strengthen transparency and communication by launching Talk of the Town, a monthly newsletter that remains the only publication of its kind by a Councilmember. He has actively connected with citizens through social media updates, neighborhood meetings, and direct outreach, ensuring residents have a voice in their government. Smith has also taken a strong stand for responsible development, fought to keep traffic congestion solutions at the forefront of the Council’s agenda, and spearheaded a first-of-its-kind working group between the Town, County, and School District to foster stronger collaboration across all three.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to Councilman Hudson for his support,” Smith said. “Darrell and I share the same commitment to putting citizens first and making sure their voices are heard. Together, we’ve worked on tough issues like traffic and growth, and his confidence in me reflects the progress we’ve made — and the work that still lies ahead.”

Smith is seeking re-election in the November 4, 2025 General Election.
