Town of Lexington, SC – Today, Town of Lexington Mayor, Hazel Livingston, announced her endorsement of Gavin J. Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council.

Mayor Livingston, who has served as the Mayor of the Town of Lexington since December 2023, cited Gavin’s fresh ideas, energy, and passion for service as the reason for supporting him for re-election:

“In just two years on Lexington Town Council, Gavin Smith has already made a lasting impact on our community. Young and energetic, he brings creativity and fresh ideas to the table, always looking for ways to make Lexington better. Gavin cares deeply about our citizens and our future, and his passion for service is clear in everything he does. I am proud to support Gavin Smith for his first full, four-year term on Lexington Town Council, and I urge Lexington citizens to join me in supporting him on Tuesday, November 4th.”

Mayor Livingston’s endorsement comes only a few weeks after Smith announced his Campaign Steering Committee — comprised of twelve local leaders, including small business owners, community leaders, and young people — who have advised Smith on priorities, citizen outreach, and keeping residents engaged before and after the election. Smith has also earned the support and endorsement of Congressman Joe Wilson, Beth Carrigg, Immediate Past Chair of Lexington County Council, Darrell Hudson, Immediate Past Vice Chair of Lexington County Council, Todd Cockrell, Lexington County Councilmember, and McKenzie Flashnick, Lexington County School District One Board Member.

Smith was elected in May 2023 to fill a vacancy on Town Council triggered by the resignation of former Town Councilmember Steve Baker. He was elected to finish out the remaining two-and-a-half years of Baker’s four-year term, making history by becoming the youngest member ever to serve on Lexington Town Council.

Since joining Council, Smith has worked to strengthen transparency and communication by launching Talk of the Town, a monthly newsletter that remains the only publication of its kind by a Councilmember. He has actively connected with citizens through social media updates, neighborhood meetings, and direct outreach, ensuring residents have a voice in their government. Smith has also taken a strong stand for responsible development, fought to keep traffic congestion solutions at the forefront of the Council’s agenda, and spearheaded a first-of-its-kind working group between the Town, County, and School District to foster stronger collaboration across all three.

“I’m deeply honored to have Mayor Livingston’s support,” Smith said. “I’ve seen firsthand how she always puts citizens first — leading with grace, compassion, and a steady commitment to our Town. It’s been a privilege to work alongside the Mayor and learn from her, and I’m grateful for her confidence in me as we continue working together to make the Town of Lexington an even greater place to live, learn, worship, and raise a family.”

Smith is seeking re-election to his first full, four-year term on Lexington Town Council in the November 4, 2025 General Election.
