Town of Lexington, SC – Today, Lexington County School District One Board Member, McKenzie Flashnick, announced her endorsement of Gavin J. Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council.
Flashnick, who was elected to the School Board for Lexington County School District One in 2024, said her decision to endorse Gavin comes from having witnessed his accessibility, transparency, and persistence firsthand.
“Gavin gets that the challenges we face in Lexington don’t stop at the Town limits — they ripple into our schools, our neighborhoods, and our families. Over the past year on the School Board, I’ve had the chance to work side-by-side with him, and what’s stood out is his genuine approach. He doesn’t just talk about collaboration, he lives it — bringing the Town, the County, and the School District to the same table and keeping the focus on what actually matters. What I respect most is that he’s accessible and transparent, but also persistent. Gavin listens, but he also makes sure things get done. That balance — of hearing people out and then moving the ball forward — is rare in politics, and it’s exactly what our community needs. That’s why I’m proud to support him for re-election to Lexington Town Council this November.”
Flashnick’s endorsement comes just after Immediate-Past Chair of Lexington County Council, Beth Carrigg, Immediate-Past Vice Chair of Lexington County Council, Darrell Hudson, and Lexington County Councilmember Todd Cockrell announced their support of Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council. These endorsements come shortly after Smith announced his Campaign Steering Committee — comprised of twelve local leaders, including small business owners, community leaders, and young people — who will advise on priorities, citizen outreach, and keeping residents engaged before and after the election.
Smith was elected in May 2023 to fill an unexpired two-year term, making history as one of the youngest members ever to serve on Lexington Town Council. Since joining Council, he has worked to strengthen transparency and communication by launching Talk of the Town, a monthly newsletter that remains the only publication of its kind by a Councilmember. He has actively connected with citizens through social media updates, neighborhood meetings, and direct outreach, ensuring residents have a voice in their government. Smith has also taken a strong stand for responsible development, fought to keep traffic congestion solutions at the forefront of the Council’s agenda, and spearheaded a first-of-its-kind working group between the Town, County, and School District to foster stronger collaboration across all three.
“I’m really grateful for McKenzie’s support,” Smith said. “She’s not only a great friend and person, but she’s also a dedicated public servant with a real heart for people. Over the past year, I’ve seen how hard she works for students and families in our community, and I’ve appreciated every opportunity we’ve had to work together. McKenzie understands that collaboration between the Town, County, and School District is key to making progress — and I’m thankful to have her partnership as we continue building an even better Lexington.”
Smith is seeking re-election in the November 4, 2025 General Election.
