Town of Lexington, SC – Today, Lexington County Councilman Todd Cockrell announced his endorsement of Gavin J. Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council.
Cockrell, who was elected to Lexington County Council in 2024, said his decision to endorse Gavin comes from having witnessed Gavin’s leadership firsthand.
“Gavin Smith is a professional and dedicated leader who brings both experience and fresh ideas to Lexington Town Council. He’s always available, accessible, and transparent with the people he serves, and he takes that same approach when working with others in government. Whether it’s collaborating with fellow Councilmembers or partnering with County Council, Gavin’s focus is always on what’s best for the citizens of Lexington. He leads with integrity, thoughtfulness, and a steady hand, and our community is stronger because of his commitment to serving others. I’m proud to support him for re-election to Lexington Town Council on November 4, 2025!”
Cockrell’s endorsement comes just after Immediate-Past Chair of Lexington County Council, Beth Carrigg, and Immediate-Past Vice Chair of Lexington County Council, Darrell Hudson, announced their support of Smith for re-election to Lexington Town Council. These endorsements come shortly after Smith announced his Campaign Steering Committee — comprised of twelve local leaders, including small business owners, community leaders, and young people — who will advise on priorities, citizen outreach, and keeping residents engaged before and after the election.
Smith was elected in May 2023 to fill an unexpired two-year term, making history as one of the youngest members ever to serve on Lexington Town Council. Since joining Council, he has worked to strengthen transparency and communication by launching Talk of the Town, a monthly newsletter that remains the only publication of its kind by a Councilmember. He has actively connected with citizens through social media updates, neighborhood meetings, and direct outreach, ensuring residents have a voice in their government. Smith has also taken a strong stand for responsible development, fought to keep traffic congestion solutions at the forefront of the Council’s agenda, and spearheaded a first-of-its-kind working group between the Town, County, and School District to foster stronger collaboration across all three.
““I’m deeply grateful for Councilman Cockrell’s support,” Smith said. “Todd and I have had the opportunity to work together on meaningful efforts that bring the Town, County, and School District to the same table — and that kind of collaboration is what helps our community thrive. We both believe in putting citizens first, and I truly appreciate his confidence and partnership as we continue working to move Lexington forward.”
Smith is seeking re-election in the November 4, 2025 General Election.
