Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy—and in Lexington, we’ve taken real steps to support and strengthen that foundation.
One of the initiatives I’m most proud of is helping lead the creation of the Town’s first-ever Small Business Advisory Committee, giving local business owners a direct seat at the table. Council authorized the committee for an initial two-year term, and later this year, we’ll take up the question of reauthorization. I fully support extending the committee’s work—and I’ll fight to ensure it remains a permanent part of how the Town engages with its small business community.
The strength of our small business community has a direct impact on the services our Town is able to provide. The revenues generated through business licenses directly correlate with our ability to fund core services—especially our police department. Without a strong business community and the revenue their licenses generate, it would be far more difficult to adequately fund public safety.
This is why building and maintaining a business-friendly climate is so important. By cutting red tape, listening to local business owners, and creating policies that support growth, we’re not just investing in economic success—we’re investing in a safer, stronger Lexington.
When small businesses succeed, Lexington succeeds. And I’ll continue to stand with those who are building, hiring, and serving right here in our Town.
