Traffic

Traffic congestion in the Town of Lexington has been a challenge for a number of years. Once a small, rural town, the Town of Lexington has become one of the fastest growing municipalities in the State of South Carolina. While this growth has undeniably ushered in a new era of prosperity for our Town, it has also brought with it the challenge of balancing limited resources and accommodating the traffic demands of a growing population.

Far too often it’s said that there is relatively little the Town and its officials can do to improve existing traffic problems, and that a significant majority of these issues are the responsibility of the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Regardless of who’s responsible for what, Gavin believes that solving this issue does not solely rely on having the legislative or executive authority to take action. Instead, Gavin believes it is the responsibility of our Town Council Members to bring applicable state and federal partners together regularly to forge solutions that address and solve this growing concern.

In addition to working closely with the applicable stakeholders, Gavin, upon taking office, will call for a comprehensive review of all traffic projects in the Town of Lexington. This review should work to assess all ongoing and planned projects, and ensure that all of our resources are being utilized to solve this issue for the people of the Town of Lexington.

This isn’t an easy issue to solve overnight, but it will be a top priority for Gavin on the day he takes office.
