Traffic is one of the most pressing issues facing the Town of Lexington—and we’re meeting it head-on with serious planning, real investment, and a long-term commitment to results.

Through LTIP 2.0—our updated Local Transportation Improvement Program—we’ve taken a comprehensive, data-driven look at the future of traffic in and around Lexington. This plan evaluates everything from crash rates and peak-hour patterns to intersection capacity and regional growth, laying the groundwork for future projects and funding opportunities across the Town and beyond.

But planning alone isn’t enough—we’ve also put our money where our priorities are.

In just the last two years, the Town has set itself on a path to invest more than $55 million in traffic and infrastructure improvements—making it one of the most aggressive investments by any municipality in South Carolina. From widening critical corridors like Old Cherokee Road and Sunset Boulevard, to advancing safety and flow improvements on North Lake Drive, to high-impact projects like the Corley Mill Split, this work is already underway and delivering real, visible progress.

Moving forward, we must continue our work to strengthen relationships with state and federal agencies—because many of the roads impacting our daily lives don’t fall under the Town’s direct control. But that can’t be an excuse. It must be a call to action. Solving traffic in Lexington will require collaboration, consistency, and continued advocacy to make sure our priorities are heard—and funded—at every level of government.

Fixing traffic won’t happen overnight. But it will happen so long as we continue taking responsibility, driving solutions, and doing the work to keep Lexington moving forward.
